A Short One on Love
If you want to love better, narrow your vision. Cast a smaller net. Allow room for you in the container of your heart.
This morning, I sat down in a coffee shop and began to prepare my heart for another day on earth. A regular day, though a fun one, Valentine’s day has never been big in my book. We love a good reason to celebrate, of course. So I won’t deny that. But today, I’m also thinking that perhaps it’s an easy opportunity to sync up with the world and shine light where it’s needed most: how we love ourselves; and, the meaning of it. Loving us.
When I think about the spiritual wellness of those who mother, minister, care give, pastor or parent, I think of these words. If we have never felt the sweet and tender embrace of Love, we will never be able to pour it out.
And while some of us find it without a guide point, most of us need just one. Just one heart pointing us North to make all the difference in the world.
And I wonder this morning, hearing stories of hurt and harm, how many are lost because there wasn't that one. Or many cancelled it out.
And I hope that together, we can transmute the suffering in our world. The starting line being how well we love ourselves.
And so, with these ponderings - I asked my community if we could meet at the starting line. I’m extending that ask here.
Can we meet here?
Can we grow in loving ourselves, and therefore the world, better, together?
If so, what does that look like?
I think these just might be some of the most valid and valuable questions within the context of caring for those we love. The world we live in. To see ourselves as divine is to know our neighbor’s divinity, too.
Let me know what you think.
